I know you're sitting there right now, reading real estate blogs and wondering about the most expensive homes in St. Louis' Illinois suburbs -- where are they, what are their listing prices and what do they look like inside? Of course you are.
Let Aunt Nancy take you on a virtual tour of these Metro-East manses.
As you can see, this geographically diverse bunch ranges from locations in Alton and Godfrey in the north part of the metro area to Waterloo in Monroe County in the south. In between, the Metro East's most expensive homes are found scattered in Wood River, Edwardsville, Highland, Fairview Heights and Shiloh (near Scott Air Force Base).
Some of the homes have less than 2 acres of land surrounding them and one offers as much as 64 acres of pricey privacy.
The 30-room native limestone home at 70 Danforth Road in Alton was built in 1925 high on the Mississippi River bluffs. It exemplifies Old World charm and craftsmanship at its finest with 11-foot ceilings and huge entertainment spaces. New owners will enjoy eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms. It can be yours for $1.5 million.
For a more contemporary home, consider the 5+-acre property at 137 Winter's Trail in the Woodlands subdivision located along IL-159 north of Edwardsville, Illinois. Built in 2007, the home is 6,200 square feet of luxury with four bedrooms (each with its own private bath.) The cars are living the high life at this home too with a four-car main level garage and a 2.5-car climate-controlled lower level garage. (Don't ask me how one acquires half of a car. I suppose anything is possible.) Listed at $1.2 million
A 28' x 23' basketball court is just one of the interesting amenities found at 13642 St. Rose Road outside Highland, Illinois. The 23-room home includes 5 bedrooms, six bathrooms, a music room, two family rooms and much more. It was completely remodeled in 2003 and is surrounded by 13 acres The home is listed for $1,25 million.
At 3403 KK Road in Waterloo, $1.275 million will buy you a 4-bedroom home on 64 acres with two ponds, a barn and other outbuildings and pens, a roping arena and stalls. If you're interested in horses or cattle, this might be the Ponderosa you've been looking for, Cowboy.
The buyer for 26204 Lakeview Terrace in Godfrey will have 26 acres of land overlooking the Mississippi River on the grounds of Lockhaven Country Club. The home includes both a guest suite and a guest house and the upper portion of the home is a massive master suite. The stocked pond with its own sandy beach and swim dock complete the picture. For $1.250 million, its yours.
The home at 5 S. Fairmount Drive in Alton overlooks the Mississippi River. The 4-bedrooms 4-baths beauty woos visitors with walnut paneling, beautiful arched ornamental plaster ceilings, hardwood and stone floors, etched and stained-glass windows and so much more. The inground pool is complemented by a gazebo said to have come from 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. (If you're a St. Louis area resident, you know how attached we are to our World's Fair legends. If you're relocating to the area, trust me, we love this stuff and so will you.)
In Fairview Heights, 100 Huntleigh Drive is an atrium ranch located on 19 acres with four bedrooms and six baths. Call Jay Leno -- or perhaps a car lover moving to the Metro East. This home has a 10-car climate-controlled garage. The gourmet kitchen is connected to a well-appointed butler's pantry and the lower level includes its own full kitchen. The price, you ask? JUst $1.6 million.
